Engineering

Cardno’s engineering and restoration services’ approach features the most current, leading-edge technology to support holistic and sustainable solutions for a variety of natural systems.

From conception through completion, our restoration engineers foster a collaborative and strategic planning approach to natural systems restoration, including river, stream and estuary restoration, wildlife habitat, water quality, dam removal, and fisheries projects. Our projects include fish habitat and passage improvements, along with river bank stabilization projects using a variety of approaches including revegetation and bio-engineering. Cardno staff understand the cause and effect relationships of natural systems and infrastructure development and seek the right balance to meet project goals.

Geomorphology

Cardno’s support of restoration projects include detailed studies and assessments of hydrology, fluvial processes, and geomorphology. Our geomorphologists use both field-based methods in concert with both 1-D and 2-D hydraulic modeling to develop their understanding of riverine systems to create restoration designs that are substantially self-maintaining. Cardno’s strategic and integrated restoration work includes applying geomorphic principles across projects ranging in size, scope, and complexity.

Cardno manages a variety of habitat and ecosystem restoration projects, including landscape analysis, construction supervision, and plant establishment.

Cardno’s Native Plant Nursery is one of the largest in the Midwest, offering native plants and seeds, and bioengineering materials needed for successful restoration, mitigation, and native landscape projects.

Our 130-acre nursery provides a local team of experts who can deliver customized solutions for restoration projects of any size. Located in Walkerton, Indiana, the nursery’s materials fulfill a range of project needs from wetland and prairie seed mixes to the deep-rooted native plants critical for shoreline stabilization and erosion control.
