Traffic Management during Duncans Road interchange upgrade

The Cardno traffic team developed traffic staging drawings during the Duncans Road interchange upgrade, which is used by more than 11,000 vehicles every day.

The interchange is a key route for a number of growing suburbs, connecting to Werribee town centre and Wyndham Harbour. The previous bridge was opened in 1961 and struggled with traffic volumes with no outbound freeway exit and no inbound freeway entrance to and from Geelong.

From 2018 to 2021,Cardno worked with WBHO as part of the Western Road Upgrades project providing traffic management design & analysis for the construction phase of the M1 / Duncans Road interchange upgrade.

The traffic team contributed to the project by providing:

> Traffic staging drawings for all works on the M1 and Duncans Road
> Traffic management designs for the safe and efficient flow of traffic during the upgrade of the Duncans Road Bridge interchange
> Detailed traffic analysis and drawings for a full freeway closure including the detour of M1 traffic through Werribee, plus closures of Duncans Road and K Road to facilitate the works

The traffic management team designed the safe and efficient flow of traffic during this significant road upgrade
