New Secondary School for Bass Coast community

Cardno, now Stantec partnered with the Victorian School Building Authority, JLL, Kennedy Nolan and SJ Higgins to design and deliver a Junior Secondary campus for Bass Coast residents.

Cardno, now Stantec provided multi discipline consulting services for the planning, design and delivery of the roadworks, stormwater management and authority utility services works required for the school.

Our Urban Infrastructure team provided civil engineering services for the project and managed inputs from our specialist Water, Traffic, Survey and Geosciences teams within Cardno to deliver the project.

Our teams worked closely with the Victorian School Building Authority, JLL, Kennedy Nolan and their consultant team and the Bass Coast Shire Council to optimise the infrastructure required for the development of the school and to achieve practical and economic outcomes.

As the school site is located outside of the area planned for urban growth, significant authority engagement was required to negotiate the extents of infrastructure required to cater for the development of the school.

An innovative approach to stormwater management was required to maintain both outflow volumes and peak flow rates from the development to the adjacent properties.

The new junior secondary campus for Bass Coast College (formerly Wonthaggi Secondary College) in San Remo, opened in January 2022. The new Years 7-9 campus is able to enrol up to 500 students, and has added to the college's two existing campuses (including the recently opened Wonthaggi Campus).

The campus in San Remo will mean students across areas such as Phillip Island, San Remo, Corinella and Grantville will have a new junior secondary school closer to home.
