Cardno was appointed lead design consultant for the development of the Maroochydore City Centre, on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast in 2012.
Sitting on a 53-heactare site of a former golf course, the Maroochydore City Centre incorporates residential, commercial and community spaces interspersed with waterways and parklands, linked by pathways and bicycle tracks, with plans for the future CBD to be serviced by both light and heavy rail.
As lead consultant, Cardno has provided a range of services across project management, environmental assessment and planning. Initially, Cardno delivered project management and civil engineering, traffic impact assessment and an integrated traffic plan, flooding, stormwater, sewer and water assessment as well as geotechnical investigations.
More specifically, our environmental specialists prepared a detailed survey of flora species, tree habitats and extensive analysis of waterways in regards to marine plants and fish passage.
The data collected by Cardno will help shape the detailed design of the Maroochydore City Centre as it is developed, particularly around waterways, canals and bridges.
We also prepared an overarching Construction Environment Management Plan for stage one of the bulk earthworks, specifically addressing acid sulphate soils, water quality and sediment along with erosion controls.
Our work has helped lay the foundations for the development over the next two decades of a 21st Century smart city, creating a new, vibrant community in the heart of the Sunshine Coast.
