Cardno delivered innovative and high quality infrastructure services that contributed to significant savings across the board on the award-winning Legacy Way project.

Cardno provided excellence in design and more than a third of the project resources to the design alliance for Legacy Way, which was named Project of the Year at the 2015 National Infrastructure Awards.

Cardno, in alliance with two other design consultants, was engaged by Transcity JV to provide detailed design and construction support for the 4.6km, dual carriageway Legacy Way tunnels connecting the Inner City Bypass with the Western Freeway in Brisbane.

Our expert team delivered tunnel, acoustics, road, structures, hydrology and geotechnical design as well as traffic management and construction support. We also provided environmental approval specialists; they negotiated with environmental agencies and Brisbane City Council to fast-track approvals and facilitate early construction works.

Cardno provided project and systems management including program scheduling, safety in design, value engineering, design review and approval, risk management and quality systems.

Our highly skilled and experienced team delivered outstanding results including:

  • innovative design enabling demolition and construction of the Inner Northern Busway bridge extension over a seven-day Christmas closure
  • development and detailing of the eastern cut and cover structure to accommodate tunnel boring machine extraction in a highly congested environment, saving significant cost on temporary words and road closures and reducing the program considerably
  • multiple public utilities relocations and consultations to enable construction staging of the cut and cover structure
  • innovative design of a Linkwater main to enable diversion in a 48-hour shut down and containment measures to protect the tunnel from flooding.
