Cardno provided structural design services for the 1-story, 10,800 sf INOVA Loudoun Hospital Center Adult/Pediatric Emergency Department, which is an addition to the existing hospital and includes private screening and isolation bays, a waiting area and triage.

The INOVA Loudoun Hospital Center, a nationally recognized and advanced community hospital, is ranked among the top hospitals in the U.S. for emergency care services. The Adult/Pediatric Emergency Department is the only emergency room dedicated to children in Loudoun County, Virginia. The kid-friendly facility is designed to treat and accommodate the needs of patients from 0 to 21 years of age.

Treatment rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art and appropriately sized medical equipment. Cardno provided structural engineering services for the 1-story, 10,800 sf emergency department, which is an addition to the existing INOVA Loudoun hospital but designed as a separate building with a three-hour fire wall. The facility has a 1,800 sf canopy covering the entrance and a 3,300 sf enclosed mechanical equipment penthouse located on the roof. The emergency department includes nine private screening bays, two pediatric isolation bays, a safe waiting area and an immediate pediatric triage. The building structure utilizes a steel system with a masonry veneer using 6-inch metal studs as back-up.
