Hernando Airport Water Reclamation Facility Phase 3 Expansion

Our teams are providing construction oversight of wastewater treatment expansion at the Hernando County (Fla) Airport’s Water Reclamation Facility and helping increase the plant’s water treatment capacity.

Construction has started for the Advanced Wastewater Treatment (AWT) expansion at the Hernando County Airport Water Reclamation Facility. Cardno’s team of engineers and designers are providing continuous construction oversight and collaborating with the contractor and Hernando County on a daily basis.

Cardno’s design team increased the plant capacity from 3.5 to 6.0 million gallons per day (MGD). The new design will enhance the total nitrogen (TN) removal to meet a new effluent TN limit of 3.0 mg/L on an annual average basis.

Cardno selected an innovative step-feed Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) process that provided significant life cycle cost savings and a reduced footprint of nearly 50 percent compared to alternatives.

It also required significantly less power, allowing Hernando County to defer installation of a planned power generator, saving an additional $1.2 million.
