The existing remediation system was discharging treated wastewater to a creek under a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit. The existing permit was expiring and the client and State Water Board required that the new permit limit tert-butyl alcohol (TBA).
Cardno’s experience and expertise at removing TBA allowed us to evaluate the current system and then design and install a fluidized bed bioreactor system that would remove TBA to an acceptable level after being pretreated by the existing system.
Cardno worked with the State Water Board to negotiate a permit extension to provide enough time to effectively update the remediation system.
Cardno navigated the client through a needed extension of a NPDES permit, allowing enough time to install a state-of-the-art system to remove the pollutant in question.
