Designing Traffic Infrastructure for Melbourne’s Wantirna Health Precinct

The Cardno traffic team were engaged to develop the concept design for Wantirna Health Precinct’s traffic infrastructure.

The master plan for Wantirna Health Precinct details a vibrant, mixed-use community anchored by a new public hospital and a health centre for medical, nursing and allied health professionals in Melbourne’s eastern region.

A key theme for the precinct vision is movement and access, featuring new signalized intersections, active modes of transport and minimising the impact on local areas.

The precinct’s traffic infrastructure designed by the traffic team comprises:

  • New signalised intersections at Boronia Road and Mountain Hwy, enabling safe access to the site, whilst providing safe pedestrian crossing points for the community.
  • Active modes of transport: allowing multiple walking and cycling options, improved public transport services for safe and convenient travel through and beyond the precinct.
  • Minimising impact on the local area by adequate onsite parking provisions, carefully managed vehicle movements and traffic calming measures where necessary.
The precinct will be in a park-like setting, offering a naturally nurturing and sustainable environment that promotes health and wellbeing for patients, visitors, works and residents.
