Clyde Road Level Crossing Removal

Clyde Road level crossing removal

Cardno was involved in undertaking traffic assessment and the preparation of traffic management for the removal of a dangerous and congested level crossing at Clyde Road.

The level crossing, located at South Gippsland Highway and Cardinia Road level crossings on the Pakenham Railway Line is to be removed and replaced by building a road underpass beneath the rail line.

The underpass will improve local connections for residents and emergency personnel, easing congestion that travels through the crossing every day.

Cardno undertook the traffic assessment to:

  • Assess the traffic impact associated with major works on the surrounding network;
  • Assist with the development of preferred construction options to be completed as part of the level crossing removal;
  • Identify key constraints and issues to facilitate the level crossing traffic detour routes during the construction stage; and
  • Provide Traffic Management plans to facilitate the construction of each.

Through the process, Cardno worked in collaboration with the North Eastern Program Alliance coordinated by Fulton Hogan to resolve requirements of Level Crossing Removal Authority and VicRoads.

Cardno’s involvement in the traffic analysis and management portion of the project led to the appointment of Cardno’s Geotechnical and Civil teams to also provide services to VicRoads for the removal of the bridge.
