Bryan Dairy Road (CR 296) from Starkey Road to 72nd Street North

Intersection of Belcher Road and Bryan Dairy Road with street lights and turning lanes

This project, through a mixed industrial/residential district, involved unique engineering design due to area constraints.

Bryan Dairy Road is an east-west, four-lane divided minor arterial in Pinellas County. Cardno was selected to provide professional engineering services to Pinellas County for widening a 1.5-mile segment of Bryan Dairy Road from Starkey Road to 72nd Avenue, to a six-lane divided section with turning lanes, bike lanes and sidewalks in this mixed industrial/residential district.

There are nine intersections and one railroad crossing included within the project limits along with improvements to a 0.5-mile segment of one of the intersecting streets, Belcher Road.

The purpose of the project was to improve capacity along this heavily traveled corridor.

One of the major challenges was to design a stormwater collection system with underdrains, while avoiding conflicts with existing underground utilities within the corridor. Cardno was one of the first engineering firms to implement the County’s new AutoCAD standards. The project required mitigation of minor impacts to wetlands and stormwater tie-ins.

Cardno recommended the use of vertical walls surrounding a pond along the railroad tracks to increase its volume. Cardno provided design, permitting, drainage analysis, coordination, environmental services, right-of-way acquisition evaluation, sound barrier wall design, access management analysis, utilities design, construction plans preparation, and post design services.
