Cardno’s Transport Planning and GIS teams developed an interactive dashboard to help our client at the Broken Hill City Council visualise our recommended infrastructure upgrades and their costs dynamically in order to prioritise these based on the Council’s budget.
Our NSW Transport Planning team worked with Council and the local community to identify the challenges and opportunities for active transport (walking and cycling) in Broken Hill with a goal to increase safety, accessibility and participation. An enhanced network comprising footpaths, on-road routes and shared paths is proposed with the shared path network being prioritised.
Non-traditional approaches were investigated and an interactive GIS dashboard was developed as a result. The dashboard provides a detailed view of the proposed infrastructure and costs based on the variables such as the geographical area, infrastructure/path types and priority levels that the users define.
The standard solution is to provide a client with a static spreadsheet of detailed infrastructure upgrades and costs. The dashboard shortcuts additional analysis and break down of the upgrades by allowing the client to dynamically see and plan how the rollout schedule can be designed to meet the budget and needs of the Council.
