Armature Works is the transformation of an industrial site into a 1+ million sf urban center in Washington, D.C. Cardno is providing structural engineering services for two 12-story residential buildings and an 11-story hotel above a 5-level parking structure/retail podium.

The two 12-story residential buildings comprise 650 apartments, and the 11-story hotel will have 200 rooms above a 5-level parking structure/retail podium with two levels above-grade and three levels below-grade. The podium will position the buildings above the Amtrak railway at the western edge of the Armature Works site.

Open spaces including a large public plaza and 50,000 sf of retail will be located at ground level with a future pedestrian tunnel planned connecting to the NoMa-Galludet University Metro Station. The boutique brand hotel will feature a restaurant on the ground floor, rooftop bar, outdoor terrace with views of the U.S. Capitol and 10,000 sf of meeting space.

The building structures will be cast-in-place concrete construction, and the design and construction of all three towers and the parking structure/retail podium will be concurrent with an estimated completion in 2020.
