Cardno, now Stantec assists with dune restoration on Florida's East Coast

Dune Restoration Planting Along Beach Shoreline

New sea oats plantings on sand dune in Vero Beach, Fla.

Cardno's restoration team is supporting Indian River County (Fla.)'s dune restoration program. As part of the effort, we are helping place more than 135,000 1-inch sea oat plugs to help stabilize recently reconstructed dunes.

The plants are placed over a three-mile area in county parks along the east coast of Florida in Indian River County, specifically the city of Vero Beach, Fla.

"This is an important project for the resiliency of the shoreline," said Project Manager Anne Otto. "Dunes provide a certain level of protection in preventing and reducing coastal flooding and structural damage. And just as significant, they provide a valuable ecological habitat."
