Helping to provide a road to safer travel and more jobs at Rockingham Industry Zone
Cardno’s Western Australian Transport team has assisted in the delivery of signalled intersection as part of the construction of a new road at Rockingham Industry Zone, south of Perth, Western Australia.
Working with contractor BMD and DevelopmentWA and in collaboration with Main Roads WA, the Cardno team provided multidisciplinary technical services.
These services covered traffic engineering, transport planning and civil engineering design, tender procurement and contract administration to help deliver a four-way signalised intersection to the industrial area which replaced the previous t-intersection.
The project was very complex from a traffic engineering and transport planning perspective with our team successfully meeting the key project objectives of DevelopmentWA inline with the expectations of Main Roads WA.
Construction was proven to be complex in the management of 30,000 vehicles per day alongside live construction activities.
Cardno and BMD worked in collaboration to achieve a successful and safely delivered project which met the project milestones of DevelopmentWA.
The four-way intersection is a key part of a new road, Alloy Avenue, and will play a key role in providing heavy vehicle operators with quicker and safer movement throughout the Rockingham Industry Zone.
Alloy Avenue was constructed to help unlock an additional 73.5 hectares of strategically located industrial land parcels at the Rockingham Industry Zone.
It is expected the construction of Alloy Avenue will help see the creation of 165 new jobs through the initial land development and construction phase with a further 310 ongoing jobs once the new site is fully established.
The increase of industry thanks to the new road is estimated to deliver an economic output of A$114 million each year, contributing massively to the local community and wider state.
Rockingham Industry Zone will also help to continue to drive the Western Trade Coast – Western Australia’s premier heavy industrial zone which delivers A$15 billion a year to the State.
The Western Trade Coast includes four primary estates which include Kwinana Industrial Area, Latitude 32 Industry Zone, the Australian Marine Complex and Rockingham Industry Zone.
Premier of Western Australia, The Hon. Mark McGowan MLA was on hand to inspect the completed project and spoke on the significant contribution the new road and signalised intersection will not only have on Rockingham Industry Zone but also Western Australia.
"Rockingham and Kwinana play a vital role in supporting Western Australia's economy as key hubs in our State's premier heavy industrial zone - the Western Trade Coast,” Premier McGowan said.
"The new Alloy Avenue provides quicker, safer movement for heavy vehicle operators within the estate and unlocks 73.5 hectares of prime industrial land that will provide a pipeline of opportunity for industry in the years to come."
