Director honoured by international committee
Project Director Chris Swaine has been appointed the Australian lead by the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association’s Committee (ITACUS) after a unanimous decision by the board.
ITACUS is an international committee based in Switzerland that aims to encourage tunnelling for public, environmental and sustainable development.
With 78-member nations, the committee promotes advances in planning, design, construction, maintenance and safety through their Think Deep National Action Plan.
Chris will represent Australia on the ITACUS Board and be responsible for rolling out Think Deep Down Under in Australia.
Think Deep brings together industry professionals to integrate urban underground space development into national, regional and local government planning policies and planning practice.
Think Deep groups will advocate and activate underground space awareness and ensure that planning and engineering knowledge is shared globally.
The appointment coincided with Chris’s visit to the 2019 World Tunnelling Congress (WTC2019) in Naples, Italy last month.
The WTC2019 theme was Tunnels and Underground Cities: Engineering and Innovation Meets Archaeology, Architecture and Art.
The four-day event featured an exhibition, social events, workshops, talks, and 670 published technical papers.
Chris calls Melbourne home after years working domestically and internationally on major infrastructure projects in pursuits, management and delivery.
