Cardno’s Katie Ross-Smith helps author research article on opportunities and challenges facing the Merced River in the Yosemite Valley
Business Unit Leader Katie Ross-Smith was part of a team who published a manuscript titled “Opportunities and Challenges for Restoration of the Merced River through Yosemite Valley.”
Published in the Journal River Research and Applications, the article examines the long-term consequences of geologic history, geomorphology, and human disturbances on river restoration.
“This paper looks closely at the significant restoration effort taking place on the Merced River,” said Katie. “It outlines the restoration strategy, approaches, considerations, variables, and offers anticipated outcomes and guidance around the need for informed decisions on restoration projects of this size.”
Cardno has performed work on the project for years, providing scientific and design support to the National Park Service as part of the Merced River within the Yosemite Valley in California. Our work has included riparian ecosystem, fluvial geomorphology, and restoration design engineering expertise. Learn more about this project on our website.
