Cardno received two planning awards from American Planning Assoc.

Professional infrastructure and environmental services firm Cardno has been lauded for outstanding project planning work on two military facilities. The company was recognized by the American Planning Association’s Federal Planning Division (FPD) at a workshop in Phoenix, Arizona on March 31.

Cardno received an Honor Award for Outstanding Area/Site Development Plan for work on the Marine Barracks Washington (MBW). Sponsored by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, this project was praised for a “renewed vision and development plan [that] embraces its urban location and historic character, resulting in a unique blend of historic preservation, context-sensitive urban infill and development plans for highly constrained sites, and integration with adjacent neighborhoods.”

Cardno also collected an Outstanding Environmental Planning Project Merit Award for the Military Ocean Terminal Concord Environmental Impact Statement (MOTCO EIS). This was recognized as “an effective document that incorporates high-quality graphics and tables in order to present technical information to a non-technical audience [and] for its elevation of a standard process into a user-friendly, quick reference document.” This award was shared with the architecture and planning firm, HB&A, based in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The APA FPD focuses on programs that protect and enhance federal lands and facilities and on improving the lives of the individuals who live on, work on, and use them. Its membership includes employees of many U.S. federal agencies and contractors, planners from communities with federal installations, and individuals and organizations based overseas.
