Cardno moderating military engineers webinar on corporate social responsibility
The United States government is using its power of procurement to ensure contractors conduct responsible business practices. On June 9, 2016, Cardno’s senior asset sustainability specialist Jeff Yorzyk will moderate a webinar presented by the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), Energy & Sustainability Committee: Corporate Responsibility for Government Contractors.
The webinar is vital for federal contractors who want to familiarize themselves with requirements intended to prevent human trafficking and for providing private security services. This discussion will help participants develop appropriate policies and procedures to implement them. These new requirements align to standards being developed for the nation’s National Action Plan on Responsible Business Conduct and to international provisions of the Organization of Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD) Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and the United Nations’ Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
The webinar will feature two experts in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Sarah Altschuller, a member of Foley Hoag’s CSR practice, advises multinational companies on developing and implementing CSR strategies, policies, and procedures and complying with new legal and regulatory requirements. Rebecca DeWinter-Schmitt, PhD, an expert in business and human rights, particularly for the private military and security industry, has been involved in many efforts to develop standards for private security providers. Rebecca also serves on Amnesty International USA’s Business and Human Rights Group.
Jeff Yorzyk is with Cardno’s Government Services group. He has over 20 years of experience managing risks and opportunities associated with sustainability and the business case for taking action. He focuses on developing tools, processes, and approaches that meet executive order requirements to integrate sustainability considerations into real property asset management. Jeff also serves (pro bono) as the Vice President of the International Society of Sustainability Professionals Board of Directors, a professional society that defines, promotes, and builds sustainability practitioners worldwide.
This webinar is part of SAME’s Continuing Education series (1.5 Professional Development Hours). You can find more information on the SAME website.
