Cardno awarded USAID Export-led Growth (ELG) activity in Kosovo
Cardno International Development will implement the Export-led Growth activity (ELG) in Kosovo for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The activity promotes resilient and self-sustaining market systems to improve competitiveness at the local, regional and global levels.
“We are happy to continue to serve the people of Kosovo in furthering their strong growth trajectory and economic capacity, while at the same time serving the interests of the American people as a partner to USAID,” said Jaleen Moroney, President of Cardno International Development (U.S. and EMEA).
Cardno has made a significant difference in Kosovo, one of Europe’s poorer nations, by empowering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to be more competitive and individuals to be more skilled and employable.
The activity will focus on bolstering the emerging market’s critical industries of wood, food processing, and information and communications technology (ICT). Cardno has been working in Kosovo in these and other industries since early 2000s as an implementing partner to USAID.
On EMPOWER Private Sector activity (2014-2020), our interventions in Kosovo have helped partner businesses create more than 5,000 jobs and more than $200 million in new sales, with $100 million of those in exports. We have worked with more than 600 small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) across the country, with business ranging from 10 to more than 200 employees. We have forged close relationships with partner businesses, who complemented our project’s investments with co-funding, and collaborated closely with industry associations.
With this activity, we aim to further increase the impact and growth trajectory for the country even amidst the pandemic challenges, following on with the success of helping these businesses adopt new technologies to stabilize, sustain, and support growth in spite of such dramatic market changes.
