Technical Director of Geotechnics | Senior Principal
What are you famous for?
All aspects of geotechnical engineering, with over four decades of experience.
Tell us about your Cardno journey so far:
I started working for Cardno in 2013, during a very difficult time as my wife was losing her battle with cancer. Through the highs and lows, I have managed to continue my work in a field that I am very passionate about, and I am very proud of this.
I have been part of a team where I have delivered many projects, which included significant scope of geotechnical design, investigation and site services. Woolgoolga to Ballina Upgrade (W2B) and Nelligen Bridge Replacement are two notable recent projects. Both of these projects required significant amount of soft soil design.
Why did you join Cardno?
I joined Cardno as a unique position came up to work on some very interesting projects, where I could also make the role my own with the vision I had and still have for Cardno Geotechnics; to expand the team and build up the collaboration among Cardno’s geotechs across Australia.
My position also has a mentoring element to it; this enables me to share my wider knowledge in all aspects of geotechnical engineering including soft clay engineering, and reinforced soil structures.
How are you, your team and Cardno making a difference?
When I first joined Cardno in 2013 the Geotechnics team in Sydney, it only comprised of my colleague Liam and myself. Together, we have grown our team to ten people strong. More importantly, with Liam’s leadership we have been able to link with over 40 geotechnical professional staff working under the Cardno umbrella across Australia. We have created a Geotechnics intranet page, it’s used as a source of knowledge sharing, and a forum for discussion for young and experienced geotechnical professionals of all persuasions.
