Committed to providing innovative, structural solutions to support your operations
Our structural engineering consultants offer a full range of services based on extensive project experience and innovative thinking. Our structural engineering capabilities include all types of structural analysis, design, evaluations, development of construction documents, and construction phase administration services. We assist various owners in taking projects from conceptual ideas through completed construction documents and follow the project during the construction phase; reviewing shop drawings, answering questions and performing construction observations. We work closely with all members of the design team to offer solutions through our engineering expertise and experience.
Creative ideas and practical designs using the latest technology are applied to projects utilizing steel, concrete, masonry, and wood as building materials. Our structural engineers are able to offer two and three-dimensional structural analysis under both static and dynamic loading, through the use of specialized computer software.
Our Industry Experience
Our experienced teams of engineers offer a collaborative approach, practical expertise, and technical knowledge designed to move projects forward and achieve quality results. This includes work for the following industries:
- Higher education
- Hotels and hospitality
- Industrial buildings

The Houston Methodist Hospital West Houston Campus requested a design for a gabled skylight atrium. The hospital is a concrete structure, and our Structures team evaluated multiple structural systems for the skylight and roof structure and recommended the use of structural steel framing instead of concrete support columns. The steel framing eliminated the need for 100 feet of scaffolding and provided structural stability and wind load resistance. Cardno’s unique structural design solution provided the owner with substantial cost savings and the desired architectural look, which was then used at additional locations. Cardno structural engineers were challenged to align the two different programming spaces of this building in Austin, Texas, consisting of a residential tower sitting on top of a parking garage structure, without the creation of a transfer level. To accomplish this, Cardno worked diligently with the architect to position columns in the residential space at key locations that would allow them to slope between Level 12 and Level 10 back to a functional grid system for the parking garage below. Cardno provided structural design services for Intelsat’s 180,000 sf tenant build-out and Tysons Tower. The scope of work included the build-out on Floors 14-20 and the structural engineering for the office tower. The modern and futuristic headquarters features floor-to-ceiling glass windows, open and collaborative workspaces, and a 2-story operations center showcasing Intelsat’s extensive fleet of satellites in space.
