BMC Software Corporate Headquarters Structural Engineering

Location: Texas; United States; North America

Built to house the leading business-management software firm in the US, this campus contains 1,571,000 sf in office space and 1,751,000 sf in parking garages. On all phases, Cardno leveraged the pre-construction services of the general contractor to develop cost-efficient structural systems.

Designed to give the appearance of two different buildings massed together, the 20-story Phase I office building has a curtainwall skin on one portion of the façade and precast concrete on the other. On top is a glass enclosure totally surrounding and concealing the cooling towers. The data center was located on a portion of the second floor. The façade of the 6-level garage sits outboard of its cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete system. Cardno engineered the CMU pierced façade to stack off the foundation and be braced by a steel tubular back-up system that also functions as the perimeter automobile rail.

Phase II design complements the original facility: the 9-story office building is clad in a unitized curtainwall consisting of 13-foot, 4-inch-high preassembled panels and is topped by a glass parapet. Building amenities include a briefing center, basketball court that doubles as a forum for company meetings, fitness center, outside areas to play volleyball, bocce ball and horseshoes, and a putting green and sandtrap.

Two 6-level parking garages, a 6-story visitor conference center and 21-story office building comprise the final phases-also designed with compatible finishes.
