Cardno facilitated a survey of scenic preferences of Australia’s stunning Whitsunday region in northern Queensland. The Whitsunday Regional Council engaged Cardno’s team of experts to map and assess the scenic values and varied landscape character of the region to help identify the features of greatest importance to the local community.
The outcomes of the Study will be used to inform a new mapping overlay within the Council’s draft Planning Scheme. This mapping will facilitate development in a manner that protects areas of high scenic value.
Cardno utilised a Queensland Government methodology, which incorporates community consultation and public surveys of scenic preferences, as well as sophisticated GIS mapping and landscape character assessment.
The Study sought community and visitor participation, through focus groups and online surveys, to help rank their scenic preferences of the region.
