Giving refugees and asylum seekers a helping hand

This week Cardno was the proud host of one of CareerSeekers training sessions for highly-skilled and tertiary-qualified asylum seekers and refugees. For the second year running, we opened the doors of our Melbourne office headquarters to more than 30 refugees and asylum seekers as part of CareerSeekers’ Mid-career Professionals Program.

Cardno also offered volunteers to assist with the sessions helping with activities, clarifying content and answering questions.

CareerSeekers is a not-for-profit organisation that assists refugees and asylum seekers with access to workplace opportunities via 12-week internships with leading organisations. The organisation splits the program into two distinct groups of asylum seekers and refugees including mid-career professionals and full-time university students.
“It’s been a fantastic experience”, said Chris Swaine, Project Director in Victoria, one of the volunteers. “I’m very glad we were able to make a difference to the people on the program within our businesses”.
Independent of our professional work, Cardno employees are encouraged to make a difference in the community, both professionally and philanthropically, and to contribute to the community through varied Corporate Social Responsibility activities.
