A contaminated site in Florida has been transformed into a waterfront park, thanks to the work of Cardno.
The community needed a recreational park and wanted to redevelop a contaminated site occupied by a former wastewater treatment plant, inactive petroleum tanks, dredge disposal and sludge drying beds. As the brownfields consultant for the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council, Cardno completed Phase I and II assessments and attained additional funding for the project through the EPA’s Brownfields Cleanup Revolving Loan Funds. Cardno’s services then expanded to master planning the park, public relations, design, permitting and construction management.
Cardno provided the organisation and flexibility required for a project funded by five different agency grants, created new recreational features while minimising environmental impacts, planned around difficult site grading and successfully transformed a contaminated site into a premier waterfront park.
