Professional infrastructure and environmental services company Cardno Limited (ASX: CDD) today announced it has been awarded a contract to supply the design services for a major electrical infrastructure replacement project for Rio Tinto.

The A$22 million project will see Cardno BEC (Cardno’s electrical engineering business), involved in a major upgrade to the electrical and controls system infrastructure at Rio Tinto’s iron ore mines Tom Price, Paraburdoo and Channar in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.

Cardno BEC will provide design services to the project over 18 months, and will supply a team of around 25 engineers, draftspersons and technical support staff from Cardno’s Perth office.

Cardno Managing Director, Mr Andrew Buckley, said Cardno was pleased to be awarded the opportunity to work on another major electrical infrastructure project for Rio Tinto.

“The project award demonstrates the continued confidence and trust in Cardno BEC’s services and the established and positive relationship between the companies,” he said.

“Cardno BEC has a proven capability across all aspects of electrical engineering in the mining and resources sector, an area into which we have been expanding for some time.”

Mr Buckley noted that Cardno offers a broad range of other services to the resources sector including environmental capability, civil and structural engineering, geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing (CMT).

“An example of Cardno’s strength in the resources, mining and oil and gas sectors is our CMT capability, with Cardno Bowler and Cardno Roadtest having been recently awarded over A$15 million in LNG project work with a range of clients in the Gladstone area,” he said.

Cardno Bowler and Cardno Roadtest provide a full range of CMT and geotechnical engineering services to civil engineering and building projects of all types in the resources, infrastructure and private development sectors.
