Cardno Sponsors Winning Team in Tour of Wellington Cycle Classic

When Cardno made the decision to sponsor a team in this year's Trust House Cycle Classic tour of Wellington we had no idea what a winning combination it would turn out to be. With the large Australian contingency heavily favoured to take out the title, the 100% Kiwi Cardno team were a surprise package. The team comprising yellow jersey winner Michael Torkler, Clinton Avery, Wade Mangham, George Bennett and Aaron Strong, also won the Team's Classification.

This is the second year in a row that Cardno has sponsored a team in this internationally recognised race. Cardno also sponsored the Under 23 title, won by Australian Michael Matthews.

This year it was decided to really get staff and clients more involved. A barbecue was held at the top of the Rimutaka Hill, and several staff members had turns riding in the team's support vehicle which gave a great insight into the logistics required for this kind of prestigious international cycling event.

Clients and supporters were also invited to a support function at the Occidental Hotel on the Sunday to watch the Criterium but unfortunately Wellington's weather got the better of the occasion and the race was cancelled.

Cardno believes that sponsorship is a great opportunity to give back to the community and, with many cycling enthusiasts among our staff, to have some fun along the way.

Cardno are keen to sponsor the team again next year, believing three years is a minimum to get the most out of the investment. There is already a lot of discussion on how to improve on this year's event and help the team out even more.
