joined Cardno as a student in
2005 and is now part of the Cardno Lawson Treloar team, consisting of highly qualified water resources, coastal and ocean engineers. The team is committed to understanding, managing, protecting and assessing the effect and impact of the natural and the built environment in coastal, marine, estuarine, rural and urban settings.

Over the past year… I have been working on a project named ‘Citiswich’, which is a billion dollar 335 ha masterplanned industrial estate located in Bundamba, Queensland, and is currently under construction.

Cardno Lawson Treloar… was commissioned to undertake the local and regional flood assessments, and develop the stormwater management strategy for the development. With such a large project to be completed in a relatively short timeframe, a team of engineers were assigned components of the project to ensure the job was completed on time.

The task ahead of us… was to ensure that no adverse impacts resulted from the development for both the construction and operational phases of the project. To achieve these outcomes structures such as culverts, detention basins, weirs, bio-retention systems and vegetated swales all had to be specifically designed.

My tasks included… hydrologic modelling, local hydrodynamic flooding assessments, and assisting with the water sensitive urban design aspects of the project.

Working on this project…further extended my knowledge in a variety of modelling situations including how water sensitive urban design features can be incorporated into deisgns and ultimately the constructed product. The local flooding in particular was relatively complex and achieving an acceptable solution was both challenging and rewarding.
