Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering

Cardno has been planning and designing transport infrastructure for more than 50 years. Our knowledge of transport, roads, railways, ports and airports allows us to deliver comprehensive and integrated planning advice to our commercial and public authority clients, both nationally and internationally.

Cardno's Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering unit endeavours to be at the leading edge of its field, and to work interactively with its clients in developing solutions. Policy research is one of our strengths with members of our team retained by state and federal authorities to research and develop guidelines and policies and monitor outcomes.

We have recently completed the South Sydney Land Use Transport Development Control Plan which is the first of its kind in Australia. It addresses the policy of land use/transport integration through statutory means. It adjusts parking policies, among a range of other measures, to ensure that car dependency is reduced and the use of other travel modes is upgraded. At the core of this statutory tool is the measurable and objective Public Transport Accessibility Index which was developed for the whole local government area based on existing public transport service levels.

We have substantial experience in developing guidelines and policies in traffic calming, main street studies, bicycle planning and pedestrian planning for a number of states in Australia.
