Hydrology, Hydraulics and Drainage

Cardno is a leader in the field of hydraulic analysis and flood studies.

The company pioneered the concept of residential canal development transforming low lying coastal areas (previously considered too expensive to develop) into superb waterfront residential allotments.

Cardno has been the major contributor to successful development of floodplain land in the coastal areas of South East Queensland and northern New South Wales.

A necessary component of this work has been the completion of major flood studies using both numerical computer and physical modeling techniques.

Cardno has completed physical model studies of major river systems such as the Nerang and Mooloolah Rivers. Both of these were commissioned by the Queensland Government in consultation with major regional developers.

Sound and reliable engineering

In recent years, Cardno has successfully developed the concept of non-tidal lake developments, often with access to tidal waters via navigation locks.

There has also been a concentration on problem solving in the area of drainage for difficult sites, where innovative stormwater management techniques have been used to produce significantly higher yields for landowners.

Cardno has carried out many studies in relation to flood mitigation and flood regulation proposals. Highly experienced staff with specialist postgraduate qualifications provide the necessary skills in this technical field. State-of-the-art computer models are regularly used to predict flooding behaviour and the impact of proposed mitigation measures.

The company continues to upgrade its hydrologic and hydraulic analysis standards, in terms of both high quality personnel and computer software. Cardno has the capability and experience to provide sound, reliable and innovative engineering advice about even the most complex hydraulic problems.
