Harold Davies and Gerry Cardno met while employed by the United States Army, Australian Base Command. They applied their engineering skills to wartime development projects including roads, water supply and sewerage throughout the northeast of Australia. At the end of the war, in 1945, they formed Cardno and Davies.

From these humble beginnings, Cardno has continued its strong commitment to providing high quality engineering services to the Department of Defence.
